The SQ Rehabilitation Center, located in the Yizhuang Development Zone, south of Beijing, is a professional medical rehabilitation institution. Its state-of-the-art rehabilitation equipment and VIP one-to-one service for patients set it apart as a high-end, modern, and professional medical rehabilitation center.
The design of the project is inspired by the idiom, "Turning cocoon into butterfly," which symbolizes growth and transformation. This theme resonates with the center's mission of physical recovery and rehabilitation. The center's unique properties include its high-tech design style, which is both modern and playful, creating a space that is not only functional but also emotionally uplifting for its patients.
The center's design is realized through bold innovation, flexibility, and the extensive use of asymmetric and non-traditional curve construction forms. The ground uses terrazzo and copper strips to form a curved partition pattern, while the walls are inlaid with divergent curved light bands. The overall space is smooth and uniform, ensuring the necessary safety of special places in hospitals.
Despite the challenges posed by the original building's layout, the design team managed to create a functional and aesthetically pleasing space. The design process involved extensive research, including visiting advanced rehabilitation hospitals in China and simulating barrier-free scenes using wheelchairs and crutches. This meticulous preparatory work ensured the project's smooth progress and ultimate success.
The SQ Rehabilitation Center's innovative design was recognized with a Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation.
David Chang's SQ Rehabilitation Center is a testament to the power of design in creating healing environments. Its unique blend of high-tech style and childlike interest offers patients a space that is not only functional but also emotionally uplifting, truly embodying the transformation of a cocoon into a butterfly.
